Micro PTSD (or Complex PTSD) is a maladaptive stress response syndrome that can develop as a result of repeated, prolonged periods of traumatic stress, particularly in cases of prolonged and repeated interpersonal (mirco) trauma experiences such as childhood molestation, prolonged parental neglect, prolonged domestic abuse, prolonged incarceration, etc. It is characterized by anxiety, intrusive thoughts and flashbacks, dissociation, cognitive changes such as poor concentration and decision making, changes in somatic sensations such as numbness or heightened fear, impaired self-regulation and boundary-setting, and overall difficulty in social negotiation.
